What Is the meaning of life?
“You have to lose your life to find it” Matt 16:25 was quoted to me by a young college student who exclaimed you couldn’t understand the meaning of life until you die. In the Boston Museum of Fine Arts is the final painting by Gauguin entitled “Whence Come We? (Where did we come from), What are We?, Whither Do We Go? (Where do we go?) 1897-98). He was disillusioned by Rousseau’s teaching that goodness would be found in savages who had not been corrupted by society. Having left his family and impregnated a young woman in Tahiti, Gauguin’s failure to find the answers to his questions left him suicidal. All of his questions and more are answered by God in the Bible. We were created by God in His image for His glory. Sin has separated us from God. Jesus said “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32. Jesus Christ by His Sprit and Word give the true meaning of life. He calls us to repent of our sins and trust His death on the cross as payment for our sins. Repentance is being sorry for our sins and turning from them to follow Christ. Cry out to Him now. He says “the one who comes to me, I will certainly not cast out (John 6:37b). He is mightily to save and He came to save sinners.
